As a small and well-organised company we are able to maintain a highly client-focussed approach, whilst offering many years of experience gained at the largest transport planning and multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies.

Jake Phillips
Position: Apprentice Transport Planner

Currently undertaking a five-year Level 6 Transport Planning Degree Apprenticeship at Aston University, Jake joined us in 2024 as an Apprentice Transport Planner.

Working across a range of projects and tasks, Jake will be expanding his academic knowledge with on-the-job learning and is already putting his mathematical and graphic design skills to benefit projects and clients here at Hub.

In his spare time, Jake volunteers at his local Parkrun and dabbles in photography and digital artwork.

Jake commutes in by bus or Park and Ride.

Jasmin Rema

Jasmin Rema

Position: Graduate Transport Planner

Jasmin started at Hub Transport Planning in November 2023 as a Graduate Transport Planner, her first full time role since leaving Durham University with a BSc (Hons) in Geography.

At Hub, Jasmin works on travel plans, transport appraisals, transport assessments and junction modelling to help our clients secure planning permission for their proposed developments.

Previously Jasmin had several internships which involved assessing legislation and public policy to help clients meet their sustainability goals.

Outside of work, Jasmin enjoys hiking, playing football and volunteering at her local mosque, as well as learning how to crochet!

Mark Fleming

Position: Associate

Mark joined Hub in 2024 as an Associate.  With over a decade's experience working across a variety of transport projects for Jacobs Solutions, Mark has extensive technical and project delivery experience and is adept at unravelling the unique challenges of each specific site and finding solutions that suit according to scale, location, budget and brief.  

He is an active member of the IHE Mercia Branch Committee, helping to organise CPD events and awards and providing guidance on best practice for the highways and transport industry. The role also keeps him up to speed with new technologies and sustainable solutions which he brings to the day job.

Despite living in the Midlands, Mark loves to sail and has mentored and competed in competitions in the UK and abroad. He also enjoys playing the guitar as part of a band – most often at his sailing club and is an avid supporter of Liverpool FC.

Matt Johnson

Postion: Senior Transport Consultant

Matt joined Hub in 2024 as a Senior Transport Consultant.  Having worked for both the private and public sectors, including Integrated Transport Planning, Dudley Council, WSP and Pell Frishmann, he’s built up a wealth of technical skills and hands-on delivery experience.  

A licentiate member of the RTPI he is currently working toward his RTPI chartership and is also a member of the Transport Planning Society under the Institute of Civil Engineers.

Matt used to be a keen kickboxer which is something he’d like to get back into although plans seem to go awry when the pub comes calling. Instead, he’s a keen hiker and is often found out and about with his 10-year-old Jack Russell.

Nick Oram

Position: Senior Transport Manager

Nick joined Hub in 2024 as a Senior Transport Planner.  He has a strong interest in active travel and sustainable transport and is a proactive member of the Transport Planning Society.

Following a Geography Degree from the University of Birmingham, Nick developed a career in highway modelling and spatial planning over previous positions held at Evoke Transport, Mott MacDonald and Arcadis.

He brings extensive software knowledge to the Hub team and combined with his passion for sustainable transport, enjoys working with developers to help them make their developments as sustainable as possible from a transport perspective.

Nick is a committee member for his local running club and captain of the cross-country team and, when not at work, spends a lot of time outdoors, running, cycling, hiking and adventuring. He also enjoys volunteering at events like the Commonwealth Games that recently took place in the Midlands. On a rainy day, you’ll find him gaming, city-building games of course to relate to the day job.

Nick cycles to work as often as possible, which he finds to be the fastest and most reliable form of transport.

Ryan Oliver

Position: Graduate Transport Planner

Ryan joined Hub in 2024 as Graduate Transport Planner. With a 2:1 degree in Transport Management from Aston University and a year’s internship at Rotork in Wolverhampton, Ryan has an interest in sustainable transport planning and experience of transport planning within the logistics sector.

He is also an active member of transport-related organisations such as Aston Transport Society, Transport Planning Society and TFWM Youth Forum. His other main interest is dance music which he indulges with trips to major clubs and festivals such as Boiler Room, Fisher, Classic Ibiza, Fabric and Ministry of Sound. He is also an active member of the Aston University DJ society and can sometimes be found playing at events at Aston Uni as well as some bars in Digbeth.

A Leicester City FC fan, Ryan commutes to Hub’s Birmingham office by train from Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Position:  Senior Transport Planner

Bailey joined Hub Transport Planning in October 2023 as a Transport Planner and was promoted to Senior Transport Planner in 2024. He prepares and develops reports such as Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans for clients’ proposed developments, to help secure planning permission.

Bailey previously worked at Stantec UK's Bristol office as a Graduate Transport Planner. He has a master’s degree in planning, is a licentiate member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and is working towards chartered status.

Bailey is fascinated by how places are linked together and how public transport shaped our towns and cities throughout history, so transport planning is definitely the right career for him!

In his spare time Bailey enjoys keeping fit, plays volleyball for his local team and is a big fan of live music.

Eleanor started at Hub in August 2023 after completing a Geography degree at the University of Gloucestershire.

Eleanor did work experience in transport planning while at uni and knew it was the career for her!

She’s supports the Hub team on providing excellent service to our clients, with projects including transport statements, transport modelling and designing site access maps.

Outside of work, Eleanor can usually be found with a book in her hand and dabbling in creative activities such as knitting and pottery.

Gerard has over 30 years in the field of transport planning consultancy and worked for several major transport planning consultancies before joining Hub Transport Planning as a Director in 2007. 

Gerard has specialised in supporting commercial development planning projects for about 24 years and his experience covers residential, retail, employment, and leisure developments. 

Gerard’s extensive experience covers traffic data collection and analysis, traffic modelling, transport assessment, travel planning, site evaluation and access appraisals, preliminary design work, S106 negotiation, public consultation, public inquiry, and due diligence work. 

Outside of work, Gerard enjoys participating in several sports including squash, racketball, golf and cycling; he also enjoys reading and following Birmingham City.

James has over 25 years in the field of transport planning consultancy, working for several major transport planning consultancies before forming Hub Transport Planning in 2006. 

After starting with a local authority, James has since specialised in supporting commercial development projects, gaining experience in all aspects of transport planning including site evaluation and access appraisals, Transport Assessments and Travel Plans, as well as public consultation and public inquiry work. 

Outside of work, James is a keen golfer, enjoys cooking (and the odd glass of wine), spending time with his family, and following Exeter City FC.

James travels in by Park and Ride.

Lisa McKinney

Lisa McKinney 
Position: Office & Accounts Manager

Lisa ensures the smooth running of the Hub and is the first point of contact for the office.

Her vast range of responsibilities include: payroll, accounts, invoicing, and administrative support for the team.

Lisa has 20 years’ experience of working in office environments, including Halcrow engineering consultancy.

Out of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her two grown up children, gardening, travelling, theatre trips and watching a good TV series!

Lisa mostly travels in by Park and Ride.

Neil Bateman

Neil Bateman
Position: Principal Consultant 

Neil joined Hub Transport Planning as Senior Transport Planner in October 2023 and was promoted to Principal Consultant in January 2024. He primarily works on transport assessments for land development clients and supports on projects in the renewable energy sector.

Neil previously worked as a senior transport planner at Stantec, where he was part of the movement and technology team and was involved in construction and delivery impact, renewable energy project development and public transport strategy and implementation.

Neil was attracted to Hub by our friendly and small, close-knit team. When he’s not working, Neil can be found with his two young children and helping at his local church as a Church of England lay reader.
