Q and A with Eleanor Stickler, our new graduate transport planner

Q and A with Eleanor Stickler

Eleanor joined Hub Transport Planning as a grauate transport planner a few weeks ago, in her first role after leaving University of Gloucestershire with a degree in Geography.

We’ve caught up with Eleanor to find out why she wanted to start her career in transport planning, and what her new role at Hub involves.

Why did you want to work in transport planning?
While studying at university I gained experience at a transport planning company and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I knew I needed to start my career in transport planning the moment I graduated. I really enjoy how different the work can be everyday whilst knowing that it benefits both the public and clients.

What attracted you to Hub?
I knew Hub was a place I wanted to work at as it is a very welcoming environment. I am supported by everyone in the office which has made me feel more confident starting this new graduate transport planner role, resulting in me developing so many new skills already!

What have you been working on?
Although I have only been Hub Transport Planning for just under two months, I have been given the responsibility to draft transport statements and travel plans, while reviewing past reports to understand how recent policy can influence outcomes. I have also been modelling graphics to show the walking and cycling extent of a site to support reports.

In addition, I have been learning about transport modelling and designing site access/sustainability figures.

I have just started studying an online course – ‘The Principles of Traffic and Transport’ – to widen my knowledge about the industry which I cannot wait to apply to more practical work.

What do you get up to in your spare time?
Outside of work, I am usually found with a book in my hand. I have been spending other free time trying to be creative; knitting and pottery are currently my favourites.
